Brief background:
Raised by his brother until he was murdered at the age of 28, James set out once he turned 19 to find the people responsible. At age 21, he attained his revenge and put the memory of his brother to rest at last. He learned his trade from his late brother, who worked for the Alliance as an undercover agent, only to be killed by one of the people he worked for. Irony worked in James' favour when he made quick work of those who killed the only family he had left by using the same methods they employed.
Ever since then, James had continued to travel the 'Verse, doing what he did best; hunting.
